Van Bramer Meets With Seniors At Queensbridge Senior Center

Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer and his mother were welcomed by seniors and staff at the Queensbridge Senior Center. Van Bramer spoke with seniors over lunch on August 5 and reviewed improvements to the facility, which included a newly created community garden started by the local seniors. The councilmember was later presented with a Jacob Riis tee shirt by Executive Director of Jacob Riis Settlement William T. Newlin, as a token of appreciation. Senior services have always been an important priority for Van Bramer, and he continues to support senior centers throughout the district. This year, more than $170,000 has been put toward improving the quality of life at the Jacob Riis Senior Center, funding nutritious meals and renovations of the restrooms. This funding is in addition to the $30 million fought for by the City Council to be used for funding senior services. “Seniors deserve everything and more from taxpayer dollars. It is truly a privilege to serve them. Our seniors deserve to age with dignity and comfort,” Van Bramer said.
