CALDC Sponsors Summer Entertainment

Waterfront Concert Series

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition’s (CALDC) Waterfront Concert Series will continue on July 21. Everyone is invited to enjoy a night of country music with the Nashville Attitude at Astoria Park on the Astoria Park Lawn, Shore Blvd., between the Hell Gate Bridge and the pool. There’s no admission fee. Just bring your family and friends along with a chair or blanket and sit back, relax and enjoy.

The CALDC 2011 Waterfront Concert Series will continue on Thursday evenings, July 28 through August 11 with live performances by the Manhattan Skyline, the George Gee swing Orchestra and Joey Dee and the Starliters.

The CALDC 2011 Waterfront Concert Series at Astoria Park is made possible through funding provided by Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., and in part, by public funds from the Department of Cultural Affairs and the following corporate sponsors: NRG, Kaufman Astoria Studios, Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Atlantic Bank, Mount Sinai Queens, Thomas M. Quinn & Sons Inc., Dunkin Donuts, St. Michael’s Cemetery and Quontic Bank.

Look for Movies on the Waterfront to begin in August.

“Summer Fun” Children’s Series

The “Summer Fun” Children’s Series presented by the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) is currently in full swing.

The series will continue on July 26 in Athens Square Park, 30th Avenue and 30th Street, with Festival Percussion sure to delight children who will be invited to play and make their own instruments.

The Summer Fun Children’s Series provides entertainment featuring artists specializing in children’s performances in the field of music, storytelling and theater.

The following performances are also scheduled:
Athens Square Park, Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.
30th Avenue and 30th Street
August 2nd — African Brazilian Carnival
August 9th — Buffono Puppet Show
Dutch Kills Playground, Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m.
36th Avenue and Crescent Street
July 27th —100 Years of Popular Dance
August 3rd — Music of the Earth
August 10th —African Brazilian Carnival

This series is made possible in part with funds provided by Councilmembers Peter Vallone Jr. and James Van Bramer through a grant from Department of Youth and Community Development, The Dutch Kills Civic Association and in part by public funds from the Department of Cultural Affairs
