Offer $2G Reward For Queensbridge Gun-Slay Info

Queens detectives are reaching out to the public for help to identify and locate suspects sought in connection with a murder outside the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City.
Residents made a grisly discovery shortly after the smoke cleared from a July 4th fireworks display outside the housing project. Passersby discovered the body of 19-year-old Mark Torres at about 1:22 a.m. on July 5, sprawled on a sidewalk outside 41-03 Vernon Blvd., police said.
Torres, who lived in the nearby Woodside Houses, was shot once in the head and left bleeding on the sidewalk, police sources said.
Torres was taken to Weil-Cornell Medical Center where he underwent surgery to remove a slug that lodged in his head. He died several hours later as a result of his injuries.
Residents said gunfire is common on the streets of Queensbridge, where most people confused the sound of gunfire with the July 4th fireworks display.
“We believe someone, somewhere in Queensbridge saw something – or knows something about this murder,” a city Housing Police investigator said. “We need people to come forward to provide information on the suspects.”
Anyone with information is urged to call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or click on www.nypdcrimestoppers.com. The Hotline is offering a $2,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
