Whitestone Teen Advances To National Beauty Pageant
Katherine McQuade, 15, of Whitestone, recently won the prestigious title of Miss New York Jr. National Teenager. McQuade attends Professional Performing Arts H.S. in Manhattan where she maintains a 95 average. She is also a member of the Landrum School of Dance All Star Company Dance Team. She will be representing New York state at the National Pageant, which will be held in Miami, Florida in July, where she will be competing for the National Title as well as college scholarships and other prizes. McQuade is very involved in her community as well as her own not-for-profit group, Potholders for Pancreatic Cancer Awareness that she established in 2007 in honor of her grandmother, Genevienve Bonura who died from the illness in 2005. All proceeds from the sale of her potholders are given to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Her goal is to raise $25,000.
