Visiting Nurse Service of New York Welcomes Girl Scouts
Seniors at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) CHOICE Adult Day Center in Woodside welcomed fifteen Westchester Girl Scouts for a full day of activities that included collaborating on a project to help less fortunate homebound seniors stay mentally stimulated and active within their community this summer. The seniors and scouts crafted Spring Into Life activity kits that included tulip bulb planting kits, life history projects, jewelry kits, trivia puzzles and greeting cards. It was 15 year old Victoria McGuire who organized the kits and other activities that featured a tea party and talent show. Victoria’s mother and VNSNY social worker, Sherri McGuire, has engaged her in community service projects from a young age. McGuire is currently seeking a pristine Girl Scout community service badge. The badge requirements stipulate that the project is sustainable and all of the activity kit contents including the potted flower were created with this in mind. The Spring Into Life activity kits will soon be delivered to elderly New Yorkers.
