Metal Workers Apprentices Wanted By March 24
District Council No. 9 of the Metal Workers Union is currently recruiting metal finishing apprentices.
Applications must be in by Thursday, March 24 and can be obtained in person from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday at the union office at 45-15 36th St. in Long Island City.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or GED and be able to perform the required work as determined by site evaluation and their attesting to the physical conditions listed on the application, including:
Working at heights
Working in all kinds of weather
Having the ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, such as buckets of paint or solvents, scaffolds and their components.
Being able to travel throughout the five boroughs to reach job sites
And being able to attend a three-day orientation
State Labor Commissioner Colleen Gardner said discrimination is illegal and that women and minorities are encouraged to apply for the positions.
