Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Senior Center Reopens
Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, state Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. and Councilmembers Elizabeth Crowley, Eric Ulrich and Karen Koslowitz were on hand for the March 11 grand reopening of a senior center that could face closure if a proposed cut in state funding is approved.
The Woodhaven-Richmond Hill Senior Center, 78-15 Jamaica Ave., Woodhaven, recently completed a renovation that now makes it more accessible to the disabled, but still liable to closure.
The center is one of 22 Queens based centers identified for possible closure by the city Department for the Aging.
In April 2010, Marshall presented the center with a check for $25,000 from her office discretionary fund for renovations that included providing access for the disabled. Local city and state elected officials, Addabbo, Crowley and Ulrich also provided funding for a total of $40,000.
