Peralta Commemorates Black History Month
Photo Dominick TotinoState Senator Jose Peralta hosted A Celebration of Black History and Heritage at the Langston Hughes Library in Corona, where former city Comptroller Bill Thompson, Borough President Helen Marshall, Assemblymember Francisco Moya, Councilmember Julissa Ferreras and EECCA President Lynda McDougald were honored. Thompson, the chairman of the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority, was presented with a Special Recognition Award. Marshall received a Lifetime Achievement Award and McDougald, president of the East Elmhurst and Corona Civic Association, was presented with the Community Activist Award. Students from I.S. 227 presented works they created in art class as gifts to the three honorees.
