Ridgewood, Glendale Top City Graffiti List
Ridgewood and Glendale top a city list of areas most blighted by graffiti vandals.
Recently released statistics show that graffiti complaints were down overall citywide in 2009, but complaints of graffiti vandalism increased in the 104th Precinct, which covers Ridgewood and Glendale.
Statistics show a total of 262 graffiti related crimes reported at the 104th Precinct in 2009, compared to 800 complaints in 2010, a 305 percent increase in the number of graffiti complaints.
Statistically, citywide complaints dropped an overall three percent in the same time period but rose by 21 percent in Patrol Borough Queens North, which encompasses the 104th Precinct.
Police sources said the city has labeled a stretch of the Grand Central Parkway in East Elmhurst as its most isolated location for graffiti complaints. Statistics show a total of 50 graffiti complaints filed by neighbors and businesses in the area.
