Duane Reade Workers Sue, Claim Bathrooms Were Bugged

Workers at a Duane Reade warehouse in Maspeth are suing the pharmacy for planting video and recording devices in employee bathrooms.

In a lawsuit filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court seeking $110 million in damages, 16 current and former Duane Reade employees claim working video and recording devices were installed in air vents in bathrooms.

The workers claim in the lawsuit that a security officer secretly installed the devices. When workers noticed them in January 2008, company officials had the devices removed and called employees to a meeting where the bosses told workers to “let it go”, and threatened to fire anyone who complained, the lawsuit states.

Officials at Duane Reade released a statement denying the claims and promising a legal battle.

“We don’t believe the suit has merit, and we will defend ourselves in court,” the statement reads.
