Astoria Man Killed By Stray Bullet In Front Of Broadway Night Club
Astoria native Derrick Moore was killed on November 13 when a stray bullet struck him outside of an area nightclub on 43rd Street and Broadway.
Moore, 29, had just exited the RSVP Lounge at around 4 a.m. when shots rang out from a gunman who fired into the crowd.
According to police sources, the gunman’s real target was one of Moore’s friends whom he had been arguing with earlier at the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City.
Immediately after the melee, witnesses say they saw the gunman drop the weapon and flee the scene.
A general vessel assistant in the U.S. Merchant Marines, Moore had just taken a re certification test in Maryland to continue his career at sea.
According to sources, Moore had plans to start a family and one day open a soul food restaurant.
He died soon after arrival at Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens. So far there have been no arrests made in connection with the Saturday night shooting, police said.
