State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. co-sponsored the first Arnie Mig Memorial Concert on Thursday, August 12, in St. Helen’s School auditorium (rain moved the event indoors), between 7 and 9 p.m. Addabbo introduced the orchestra members and a vocalist to the audience, while holding up a photo of the late Arnie Mig (Arnold Migliaccio), who played music from the Big Band era for Howard Beach audiences during the past 20 years. Also on hand were concert co-sponsor Assemblymember Audrey Pheffer and Congressmember Anthony Weiner. Enjoying the swing and sway were 160 local seniors, who danced the night away, thrilled to hear familiar beats of yesteryear from the Arnie Mig Swing Band, thanks to the co-sponsorship of Addabbo and Pheffer. Planned to be an outdoor summer concert in St. Helen's parking lot, and an annual event, Arnie Mig’s Big Band swing will be alive in the community for many years to come.
