McCann's Pub & Grill

McCann’s Pub and Grill is everyone’s favorite local pub, located on Ditmars Blvd. in Astoria. The secret lies in the generous portions of freshly made food, friendly service, a convivial crowd and nightly drink and food specials. Indeed after 12 years on the block, McCann’s offers warm Irish hospitality to all.

McCann’s is a sports lovers’ paradise, with 18 screens showing all the games, everywhere, including the wildly popular World Cup. Come in and watch the matches as you mingle with friends and enjoy a frosty pitcher of beer or your favorite cocktails and some of their delicious dishes. Owner Paul Fogarty and manager John McEvoy welcome all and there’s never a cover charge at McCann’s.

Each night offers beer and snack specials to please the crowds that feature brews such as Bud Light, Miller Light

and Coors light for $3 on Mondays. Tuesday is martini madness with $5.50 martinis all night long or enjoy a juicy McCann burger and a pint of beer for just $12. Don’t forget their taps flowing with Guinness, Harp, Stella Artois, Newcastle and Magner’s Cider and more. McCann’s has a long list of specialty cocktails, such as the French martini, with a splash of Chambord, or the refreshing, summery peach or

watermelon martinis. Other fruity drinks, such as strawberry daiquiri, pina colada and margaritas are mixed up on the spot. Wednesday night is Ladies’ night where gals get half price drinks from 8pm until 1am. The billiard table and dart board always offer fun, friendly games for all to enjoy.

You can’t beat McCann’s for consistently fresh snacks and meals served in very generous portions. We began with some tempting appetizers that can be eaten at the bar or at one of the pub tables. Chicken quesadillas are large enough to have as an entrée and are filled with tender chicken and melted cheese, served with chunky salsa and creamy sour cream ($8.25). One of the most popular appetizers is the steak tidbits. Angus steak is cooked to order then cut into bite-sized cubes and served over garlic bread with melted mozzarella ($8.50). This steak is very tender and juicy and could be a meal in itself. Mc- Cann’s Buffalo bites put a new twist on the wings with these boneless chicken bites that are breaded and fried till golden, then served with your choice of hot sauce, barbecue sauce, teriyaki, or honey glaze ($7.50). The Buffalo wings are tender and juicy and can be ordered as spicy as you like them. The Buffalo shrimp are equally as good, served with tartar sauce. McCann’s “sliders” are beef mini burgers with bacon and your choice of cheese. They make a nice snack and are perfect for sharing. The crab cakes are also bite-sized and full of sweet crabmeat, with six to an order. Potato skins are full of melted cheese and bacon and served hot and crispy for just $7.25 for a large portion. You can also have them filled with McCann’s famous chili or vegetables and cheese. McCann’s chili is thick and meaty and can be ordered as an appetizer too. If you can’t decide among these tantalizing choices, McCann’s Sampler offers an assortment of their best appetizers for just $11.95 to please everyone.

My companion ordered the Hungry Man steak, a 12- ounce shell steak, juicy and tender, smothered in mushrooms, onions and peppers with a delicious gravy ($15.95). The same juicy steak can be ordered straight up, cooked to your liking and served with vegetables for just $13.95. Savory chicken cordon bleu is a massive dish, layered with tender chicken breast, ham and Swiss cheese. Chicken Francese is tasty and fork tender, served with pasta and fresh vegetables. Pub classic Shepherd’s Pie is always a good choice. Freshly tossed salads can be ordered for dinner as well, alone or topped with grilled chicken, Buffalo chicken, steak or chunky white tuna and your choice of dressing.

McCann’s burgers are juicy and delicious, made with fresh beef, turkey or veggies, topped with your favorite cheese, bacon and more. A long list of wraps and sandwiches can be ordered any time of day, made with plain or whole wheat tortillas. The McCann’s wrap features grilled chicken, bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and honey mustard ($8.95) and the Cajun chicken wrap is one of the most popular for its zesty seasoning, lettuce, tomato, bacon and mayonnaise. A classic BLT sandwich or a Club sound just great, especially when served with a choice of steak fries, onion rings, mashed potatoes, salad or rice.

If you missed breakfast this morning, don’t fret… breakfast is now being served all day and all night long, so stop in any time. There’s always something fun happening at McCann’s. Enjoy the World Cup matches, MMA mixed martial arts and Strike force matches on June 16th and 26th and all your baseball games here at McCann’s where there’s never a cover charge.
