NYCB, Citymeals-On-Wheels Join For Mother’s Day Efforts
(L. to r.): Queens County Savings Bank Senior Vice President/Assistant Director of Branch Operations John Fennell, New York Community Bank Senior Vice President Gianpiero Careddu and Citymeals-on-Wheels Director of Communications Beth Shapiro at a presentation ceremony at the Queens County Savings Bank branch in Flushing during which New York Community Bank donated funds to Citymeals-on-Wheels.
Eight hundred meals were once again prepared and hand-delivered to homebound elderly New Yorkers in Brooklyn and Queens on Mother’s Day, May 9, thanks to the ongoing efforts of Citymeals-on- Wheels and the support of New York Community Bank (NYCB). Earlier in May, NYCB donated $5,000 in total–the funds needed to cover the costs of the meals–during presentations to Citymealson Wheels representatives at the Queens County Savings Bank in Flushing and the Roosevelt Savings Bank in Marine Park, Brooklyn.
On May 9, volunteers delivered the meals, along with a special Mother’s Day greeting card to bring additional cheer to recipients. Through the efforts of individuals and corporate partners, Citymeals can act as family to more than 18,000 New Yorkers who depend on the organization for nourishing meals 365 days a year. With certain gifts designated for administrative expenses, 100 percent of all other donations, such as the special Mother’s Day sponsorship from NYCB, are used entirely for the preparation and delivery of meals.
“We appreciate New York Community Bank’s generosity and ongoing support to help us to deliver a valued combination of food and companionship,” Citymeals-on- Wheels Director of Communications Beth A. Shapiro said. “More than 75 percent of Citymeals’ recipients are women, most live alone and many are without children or family nearby to acknowledge this special day. We are grateful that NYCB partnered with us in our efforts in Brooklyn and Queens this past Mother’s Day.”
