Vallone, Merchants Keep 30th Avenue Clean

A quick stroll along Astoria’s 30th Avenue will quickly reveal two seeming incongruities: clean streets and sidewalks and many people dining outdoors.

As a result of a partnership between the 30th Avenue Merchants Association and City Councilmember Peter F. Vallone Jr., Astoria’s central hub and New York City’s outdoor café capital now has two street sweepers who clean 30th Avenue between Crescent Street and Steinway Street four times a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vallone provides $8,000 in discretionary funding for the “Clean Streets” program. This year, the 30th Avenue Merchants Association matched that amount.

“We all know the importance of safe streets, but clean streets are just as vital for our community,” Vallone said.

Central Astoria Local Development Coalition Executive Director Marie Torniali added, “We are thrilled to restart the Clean Streets program on 30th Avenue. This could never have happened without the support of Councilmember Vallone and the businesses of 30th Avenue.”
