Fundraiser Held In Support Of Simotas’ Assembly Bid

Photo Tony Barsamian Business leaders Peter Phillips Sr., and Peter Phillips Jr. joined with architect Gerald J. Caliendo to host a fundraiser for Aravella Simotas, Democratic candidate for the Assembly. The event was held May 6 at Pomme Café, 37-19 Broadway in Astoria with Assemblymember Michael Gianaris as a guest speaker. Gianaris is running for the senate position that opened up as a result of Sen. George Onorato announcing his retirement. Simotas seeks to fill Gianaris’ present seat in the Assembly.

Simotas is a lifelong resident of Astoria with a strong commitment to the community. Her career in public service began at the New York City Councilmembers of fice of Oversight and Investigation, where she focused on various public safety, youth and environmental issues followed by community affairs work at the offices of Councilmembers Vallone Sr. and Vallone Jr.

Simotas states that she is running for Assembly so that she may continue delivering results for the Astoria community and middle-class families. If elected, Simotas pledges to tackle the serious issues that face Western Queens.—Jason D. Antos
