City: No Fall Leaf Pickup

City officials are urging Queens homeowners to bring bags filled with fallen leaves to Astoria Park this year.

The Department of Sanitation announced recently that workers would not collect bags of leaves with regular curbside trash pickup this fall, so homeowners are urged to bring bagged leaves to Astoria Park, 19th St. and Hoyt Avenue North, on November 22 for drop off.

The bagged leaves will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. Leaves will be composted for use in city parks, community gardens and around city street trees in the spring of 2010.

Anyone interested in obtaining the composted leaves next spring can do so by calling “311” for details on availability.—Liz Goff
