Joey Dee’s ‘Peppermint Twist’ Back At Astoria Park

Joey Dee’s ‘Peppermint Twist’ Back At Astoria Park

Mother Nature might have rained out the July 23 performance at Astoria Park by Joey Dee and the Starliters, but don’t pack up those poodle skirts and pedal pushers just yet. Thanks to the generosity of Joey Dee (aka Joseph DiNicola), the “Greatest Show In Rock ’N’ Roll” returns to the Astoria Park stage at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 13 as part of the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) 2009 Waterfront Concert Series. Baby boomers can grab a blanket or a beach chair or two and head to the lawn at Astoria Park on Shore Boulevard and 19th Street between the Hell Gate Bridge and Astoria Pool for this special, return performance that will start with a frenzied “twist” medley–a tribute to the dance craze defined by Joey Dee and the Starliters when rock ‘n’ roll was young that’s sure to have the audience kicking off their shoes and swiveling their hips. Joey Dee and the Starliters will also belt out hits including “Peppermint Twist”, “Face Of An Angel” and their chart topper, “What Kind Of Love Is This?”

“Joey Dee’s offer to come back to Astoria Park is a testament to his allegiance to his fans and we are very grateful for his generosity,” CALDC President Julian Wager declared.

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) Astoria Park 2009 Waterfront Concert Series is made possible through funding provided by state Senator George Onorato, City Councilmember Peter Vallone, Jr., in part, by public funds from the city Department of Cultural Affairs and the following corporate sponsors: NRG, The Mount Sinai Hospital of Queens, Atlantic Bank, Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Time Warner Cable, Capital One Bank, Ponce De Leon Federal Bank and Thomas M.
