Blotter Bits

Fireworks Interdiction

Police assigned to a fireworks interdiction team at the NYPD Organized Crime Control Bureau last week busted two Long Island men who were transporting illegal fireworks along the Whitestone Expressway.

Authorities said the cops were conducting surveillance when they spotted Karl Jurgensen, 44, and Fred Masso, 33, driving along the expressway in a Ford Expedition they believed was carrying the illegal explosives.

When the cops pulled over the Expedition at 20th Avenue and the Whitestone Expressway, they recovered a cache of approximately 42 cases of fireworks, police said.

Jurgensen and Masso were charged with unlawful possession of fireworks and illegal sale of fireworks.

Detainee Busted For Stationhouse Assault

A detainee at a Jackson Heights stationhouse was rearrested on June 22 after he attacked another man in the police lockup.

Police said Jeronimo Hernandez, 19, was in a holding cell at the 115th Precinct at about 6:30 p.m. on June 22 when he attacked a cellmate.

Court papers state that cops at the Northern Boulevard stationhouse witnessed Hernandez as he head-butted the man twice, leaving him with a bloody nose. Cops rushed to the lockup and stopped the attack, authorities said.

Hernandez was charged with assault.
