American Airlines Joins Puerto Rican Day Parade

American Airlines Joins Puerto Rican Day Parade

One hundred flag waving, singing, dancing American Airlines employees whipped up the crowds witnessing Sunday’s Puerto Rican Day Parade as it progressed up Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. American, the parade’s official airline has served Puerto Rico for 38 years and has participated in the parade for 25 years.

The Puerto Rican Day Parade last Sunday, June 14, drew plenty of energy from American Airlines as 100 pumped-up marchers from the airline celebrated its 38 years of service to the popular “Island of Enchantment”. The enthusiasm was infectious, as the American employees waved flags, sang and danced to the Latin rhythms emanating from the airline’s float.

“Once again, our people held nothing back in showing their enthusiasm for our wonderful relationship with the Puerto Rican communities, both on the United States mainland and in Puerto Rico,” American Airlines New York Manager for Caribbean and Latin American Sales John Lisiewski Cardona said. “We are proud to be the official airline of this great event.”

Lending a celebrity presence to the American Airlines float was Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tony Award-winning composer-lyricist of Broadway’s “In the Heights”. “I’m proud and honored to be part of this great celebration, and to honor the wonderful relationship between New York and Puerto Rico,” Miranda said. “I’m especially pleased to join with American Airlines, which supports the Puerto Rican communities here and in Puerto Rico by assisting with education and emergency medical assistance.”

American Airlines has participated in the Puerto Rican Day Parade for 25 years. In addition to offering a college scholarship in connection with this event, American provides cargo space on its planes to Puerto Rico and other Caribbean destinations for disaster relief efforts and transports physicians and medical supplies to these locations. American is also active in the Hispanic Federation, which comprises 81 Hispanic health and human services agencies in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
