KIWANIS CLUB Of Astoria/Long Island City Annual "Scholarship Awards"

On Wednesday, May 27th, 2009, the Kiwanis Club of Astoria/Long Island City held its annual Scholarship Awards dinner at Ponticello Ristorante. Chairman of this event was, President Paul A. Vallone, along with his co-chair, Linda Perno, with Committee members, Dr. Arthur Gualtieri, Michael Serao and Rose Anne Alafogiannis.

It was our pleasure to present seven scholarship awards to students attending our local community schools. Four Academic awards, and three Art awards. Our top Academic award was the "Tom Alafogiannis" award and that was presented to Alex Uquillas from New Comers School, our next award was the "Manolas Family" academic award given by Melina Manolas to Claribel Herrera from Long Island City High School, our third and fourth place awards were presented by Paul A. Vallone to Christopher Ocampo from St. John's Prep and Jason Efthimiades from William Cullen Bryant High School. In the Art category our first place winner was presented the "Pam Smith Art Award" that went to, Joo Young Kim from William Cullen Bryant High School, second place winner was Guido Stefano Verdesoto from St. John's Prep and third place winner Sergio Falquez from New Comers School. The evening was filled with excitement and family, faculty, and Kiwanians had a wonderful time.
