Parent Alerts Go Hi-Tech

Governor David Paterson last week signed a bill that requires administrators to notify parents by e-mail, phone call or text message when emergencies arise at city schools.
The measure, slated to take effect in January 2010, requires the establishment of an alert system at each city public school, subject to rules and regulations set down by the Schools Chancellor.
Parents, school staffers and community residents can choose to sign up for participation in the alert system.
