The New York City Department of Parks and Recreation has given a green light to synthetic turf ball fields and play areas, including the new St. Michael’s field. Tests for lead were conducted at 102 sites after elevated amounts of lead were found in a new synthetic turf field at Thomas Jefferson Park in East Harlem last year. That field was immediately closed and the Department of Parks is in the process of replacing the land fill there. The field will reopen this summer. More...
