• Bridge Tolls Are Bad Idea
Tolls of $2 a trip on the bridges spanning the Harlem and East Rivers will be imposed shortly if Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has his way. The tolls are intended to defray some of the reported shortfall in the $1.2 billion MTA budget and are a compromise on Silver's part; an original proposal would have imposed tolls of $5 a trip.
