Description Helps Catch Bank Robber
      Bank robberies were up 57 percent in New York City last year. There were 444 bank hold-ups in 2008, compared with 283 heists in 2007, according to the NYPD. Five banks were hit in one day on December 29, making headlines. On December 19, a man passed a robbery note to a teller in the Sovereign Bank branch on 36th Avenue within the 114th precinct.

Dino Rosi Serenades Seniors At Bohemian Hall Party
     On December 16 Bohemian Hall, 29-19 24th Ave., Astoria, was the scene of a Christmas party hosted by the HANAC senior center of Astoria. More than 200 young-at-heart revelers enjoyed refreshments and danced to Big Band music and the dulcet tones of Dino Rosi, "The Voice of Naples".
