Foxy's Diner

f oxy's Diner calls itself "The Finer Diner" and considering the great selection of American and international foods served, the high quality and the prompt service, I would agree with this moniker. Foxy's Diner opened one and a half years ago, and is conveniently located

on Queens Blvd. and 43rd Street in Sunnyside. Owner

Spiro Kasimis and the staff welcome locals each day and night for home style cooking served in a clean and comfortable environment. Cozy booths and bistro tables rest on ceramic tile floor. Warm hues adorn the walls, highlighted by stylish lighting. A nice selection of imported beers and wine is available and complements the array of food very well.

Foxy's caters to the international flavor of the neighborhood it serves while maintaining the classic dishes you'd expect to find in a New York diner. In addition to classic dishes such as juicy burgers, BLT's, grilled pork chops and hearty meatloaf with mashed potatoes, Foxy's also serves a number of Mexican, Greek and Italian dishes to please the steady clientele. There's even a classic Irish breakfast served every day, complete with two kinds of sausages, grilled tomato and beans.

For dinner, start with some of their delicious appetizers which include zesty Buffalo chicken wings with bleu cheese dressing and cheese quesadillas which rival any found in Mexican restaurants. Foxy's Super Nachos Deluxe is one of the house favorites, loaded with jack cheese, cheddar, jalapenos and beans, and served with sour cream and fresh salsa. Foxy's sliders are mini burgers served on mini sesame buns which are very popular with kids and adults alike. Panko-crusted chicken tenders are hand cut and served with dipping sauce ($7.95) and the coconut shrimp are prepared similarly, served with ginger dipping sauce. All appetizers are generously sized and perfect for sharing.

Each day, the chef at Foxy's prepares dinner specials that are out of this world. "The Blues" pork chops are topped with melted gorgonzola cheese, caramelized onions and served with fire-roasted red pepper mashed potatoes. Pueblo chicken verde is slow-cooked chicken on the bone, stewed in green tomatillo sauce and served with rice and beans and nopales, which are tender cactus leaves that taste somewhat like snow peas. ($12.95). My dining companion devoured the steak chussos, which were thin slices of marinated skirt steak, skewered onto wooden sticks for a quick pass over the charcoal fire. The accompanying guacamole and rice completed the plate. Those craving Italian food will love the lobster ravioli topped with vodka sauce or fresh mussels and linguine topped with zesty marinara sauce. There are excellent sautéed specials such as "Sunnyside Chicken" with sun-dried tomato pesto, mushrooms and goat cheese ($14.95) or Hawaii Five-O chicken, sautéed with teriyaki sauce and pineapple. Lunchtime features a host of fresh salads, sandwiches and soups to satisfy any appetite. Foxy's Specialty Sandwiches include a turkey "foxini". This mile-high sandwich is piled high with fresh roasted turkey, swiss cheese,

bacon and mayo on grilled bread for a satisfying lunch or even dinner ($7.50). The Greek wrap is stuffed with grilled chicken and feta cheese, tzatziki sauce, lettuce and tomato. The crab cake sandwich requires two hands for the hefty crab cake full of sweet crab meat and spices, served on a bun with tartar sauce and a side of roasted peppers and mixed greens ($9.95). Try Foxy's baby spinach salad tossed with bacon, artichoke hearts and sliced egg.

For dessert, or an anytime snack before or after the movies, order a slice of creamy cheesecake, apple pie a la mode or brownie surprise. Creamy tres leches cake is made with three types of milk and all desserts go well with their robust coffee.

Breakfast is so good at Foxy's, it's served all day long. Enjoy fluffy pancakes, Belgian waffles, French toast and omelets of your choice. Foxy's eggs Benedict is available every day, as is their salmon Benedict, with smoked Nova Scotia lox. Located just below the 7 train, breakfast sandwiches can be packed up to go with you and Foxy's will deliver to your home or office.

A price-fixed Brunch is offered on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 4pm for just $9.95 where you'll enjoy a mimosa or beverage along with 7-grain very berry French toast, Chipotle Irish-Mex eggs Benedict or Foxy's popover, with scrambled eggs, ham and cheese.

Foxy's Diner is open seven days a week from 7am to midnight Mondays through Fridays and 7:30am to 11:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. They offer off-site catering for all your needs.
