Crowley At Signing Of U.S.-India Nuclear Pact After three years of working for the U.S./India civilian nuclear pact to become law, Congressmember Joseph Crowley was present last week to see it signed by President George W. Bush. "Today the hard work of this Congress, the administration and my friends in the Indian- American community has finally come to fruition," Crowley (D- Queens/The Bronx) declared. He added, "After three years, we officially have an agreement in place to ensure that the U.S. and India work together to peacefully and responsibly develop civilian nuclear technology." The Elmhurst lawmaker, whose Jackson Heights-based district has a large Indian population, stated, "I am proud to have been a part of moving this legislation forward, and it is my hope its enactment will help to solidify a critical partnership for decades to come." Crowley, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, former chair of the Caucus on Indian and Indian-Americans and a key leader on South Asian affairs in the Congress, helped to broker the nuclear pact. |
