Borough-Wide Blotter 102nd Precinct Church 9/11 Memorial Vandal Caught Police arrested a 34-year-old Queens man on July 20 after he admitted he vandalized a September 11 Memorial at an Ozone Park church. Police said Daniel Lopez admitted during questioning that he broke floodlights and vandalized a circuit breaker box on the memorial at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church at 101-40 91st St. Lopez was charged with criminal mischief and disorderly conduct and was held for psychiatric evaluation at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court. 109th Precinct Hunt Is On For Gas Station Crooks Queens detectives are seeking help from the public to identify and locate two thieves who robbed a Flushing gas station twice in the last three months. Police said the suspects burst into the Exxon station at 29-16 Francis Lewis Blvd. on May 15 and July 17, where they confronted two workers, then grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash from a register and fled on foot. One of the suspects is described as male, black or Hispanic, 200+ pounds and 40- to 45- years old, with eyeglasses. Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call the Crimestoppers Hotline at 1- 800-577-TIPS. A $2,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. 110th Precinct Fan Strikes Out In Shea Assault Police at the Shea Stadium Detail arrested a 21-year-old Mets fan on July 26 for assaulting another woman in the stands at Shea. Laura Rizzo got into an argument with the 27-year-old victim in the late innings of a Mets-St. Louis Cardinals game. The argument came to a boiling point when Rizzo smashed a beer can into the face of the New Jersey woman, police said. Stadium security guards delivered Rizzo from the stands to a NYPD holding pen at Shea, where she allegedly told police the victim deserved the attack. Police are still trying to determine the cause of the dispute. Rizzo was charged with assault and harassment at her arraignment at Queens Criminal Court. Shea Parking Attendant Busted Police arrested a recently fired Shea Stadium parking attendant on July 25 after he was caught charging fees to fans who parked in the stadium lot. Noel Bonilla, 34, was seen by a former supervisor standing at the stadium gate on Roosevelt Avenue in his parking attendant uniform at about 2:30 p.m. on July 25. Bonilla was holding $15 he collected from unwitting fans who parked in the lot. Police said the supervisor from Central Parking Corporation alerted police, who charged Bonilla with criminal impersonation, petit larceny and trespassing. |
