Little Neck-Douglaston Org. Names 2008 Honorees

On May 7 the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade Organization announced its 2008 award winners at its annual dinner dance, held at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on 111th Street.

The Organization named Major General William Terpeluk, commanding officer at the 77th Regiment at Fort Totten, as Grand Marshal of this year's Memorial Day Parade, which is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26 on Northern Boulevard in Little Neck.

Dee Richard was named Woman of the Year and Michael Ricatto was named Man of the Year. Steven Newman was presented with the Douglas S. Mackay Community Service Award.

On hand to congratulate the awardees were James J. Rodgers, chairman of the board of the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade Organization, state Senator Frank Padavan, Assemblymember Mark Weprin, City Councilmembers John Liu and James Gennaro, former Queens Borough President Claire Shulman and numerous other community leaders.

Rabbi Morton Pomerantz offered the invocation and the colors were presented by a color guard of soldiers from the 77th Regional Readiness Command at Fort Totten. The Virgil Scott Swing band performed musical selections and entertainment was provided by United We Sing and Greg Wilder.
