Seminar Offers Education/Political Science Credits

The Taft Institute for Government will offer its annual seminar for teachers in the late summer and fall of 2008. Held at Queens College, the seminar offers three free graduate credits and a multifaceted curriculum that includes discussion, debate, "hands-on" curriculum development and face-to-face dialogue with local and national political representatives, journalists and campaign professionals.

This year's program focuses specifically on the 2008 Presidential and Congressional elections, providing teachers and their students with instructional ideas and materials, an election simulation game and many other activities. A second major focus will be on current issues in American foreign policy, using materials from the Brown University Choices Project. Guest speakers include political leaders, university scholars and award winning teachers.

Participating teachers can earn three graduate credits, tuition free, in education or political science, and refreshments, materials and book are provided. Enrollees are asked to apply with a $100 registration fee made payable to The Taft Institute for Government to reserve a place in the program. For an application, contact Professor Jack Zevin, c/o Ms. Pat Glakeler, Administrative Assistant, at Queens College, 718-997- 5150 or 5546. Application deadline is June 30. Post-graduates from public, private, and parochial schools are welcome, especially if two or more apply together. Space is limited- apply as soon as possible.
