Local Woman Turns 100 On Mother's Day
Alice Font Vazquez, shown at her home of 51 years in the Upper Ditmars neighborhood of East Elmhurst, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Mother's Day, May 11. Born in Puerto Rico 10 years after the island became a commonwealth of the United States in 1898, Vazquez will be joined in festivities attendant upon reaching the century mark by her family: her only child, Emma V. Rodriguez; three granddaughters and one grandson; eight great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons; one great-great granddaughter, and other family members. A second great-great grandchild is due to be born shortly.
