Two Queens Teachers Win Siemens Science Award

The Siemens Science Teacher Awards recognize exceptional middle- and high- school science educators in public and private schools who go the extra mile to motivate and inspire their students.

Some ten science teachers from the New York City metro area will be honored at a special awards ceremony at the New York Hall of Science on May 13- two of them are from Queens. Selected by the Education Department of the New York Hall of Science, the 2008 award recipients are Carol Keil and Joseph Sweeney, both from P.S. 11 in Woodside.

To encourage as much recognition for science achievements as is given sports in America's schools; the Siemens Foundation is awarding each recipient a trophy and trophy case for display at the school.

The Siemens Foundation contributes nearly $4 million annually in support of Math, Science, and Technology education from grade school to graduate school in the United States. Part of Siemens' Generation 21 global education initiative, the foundation's signature programs also include Siemens Science Days, Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement, the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, and the Siemens Teacher Scholarships.

The award ceremony will take place on May 13 at 6 p.m. in the New York Hall of Science, 47-01 111th St., Flushing Meadows- Corona Park.
