Borough-Wide Blotter Teen Assailant Busted Police arrested a 16-year-old Queens girl on April 8, and charged her with robbing and beating a Woodhaven teen. Police said Phedora Smith confronted the 14- year-old victim on Dexter Court and Jamaica Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. on March 31. Cops said Smith accosted the victim and threatened to rip her earrings out of her ears if she refused to hand them over. The victim gave the earrings to Smith, who then went through the teen's pockets, swiping her cash and MetroCard, police said. Smith then repeatedly punched and beat the teen in the face, causing minor bruises and contusions to the girl's mouth. Smith fled in an unknown direction following the attack, but was tracked down by police at the 104th Precinct, who arrested her on April 8 on assault and robbery charges. 58-Year-Old Graffiti Vandal Nabbed Police in Woodhaven busted a 58-year-old local man on April 15 after he vandalized two neighbors' homes with "strange" graffiti, officials said. Cops said Charles Murphy tagged his initials on a neighbor's fence near his 75th Street home some time between March 23 and April 15. Police said Murphy did it again on April 15, spraying "Rental Space Available" in green paint on the side of another neighbor's home before tossing a brick through the woman's window. Five hours later, Murphy scrawled "General Fidel Castro- U Die" on the front of the woman's home, police said. Murphy was arrested a short while later and charged with criminal mischief and making graffiti. 108th Precinct DWI Dope Nabbed Stealing Impound Car Police arrested a 32-year-old Brooklyn man on April 15 after he was caught trying to steal his car from an NYPD impound lot in Long Island City. Cops said Damon Ross' troubles started when he was driving drunk on April 13 and sideswiped another car on the Long Island Expressway in Long Island City. Police said Ross fled from the accident, but the other driver followed him, honking his horn until Ross pulled over near Maurice Avenue in Maspeth. When Ross approached the other driver and offered him $100 cash for damages to the man's car, the driver called 911, police said. Ross subsequently failed a Breathalyzer test administered by police who responded to the call, authorities said. Ross' car was seized and impounded at the NYPD lot in Long Island City. Police said Ross complicated his legal woes on April 15 when he was nabbed red-handed with a sledgehammer and two screwdrivers trying to break into the NYPD lot to take back his car. Ross was charged with burglary and drunk driving, authorities said. 110th Precinct Nab Amazins' Jacket Thief Police arrested a 43-year-old Bronx man on April 17 after he was spotted trying to steal a Mets jacket from a promotion booth sponsored by New York Newsday, authorities said. Cops said on April 17 Nelson Ondre walked past the Newsday stand on Roosevelt Avenue behind Shea Stadium, grabbed the jacket and walked away. A Newsday employee working at the stand saw Ondre swipe the jacket and alerted police at Shea Stadium, authorities said. Ondre was nabbed a short while later and charged with petit larceny. |
