Rebate Checks Delivery Started 4 Days Earlier Than Planned
BY JOHN TOSCANO

The (7.7 million) taxpayers who usually would get money back on their IRS filings by direct deposit should find the credited amounts in their bank accounts by next week, Maloney said.
Congressmember Carolyn Maloney rarely agrees with actions which President George W. Bush undertakes, but last Friday, she applauded the chief executive's decision to start sending out economic stimulus rebate checks earlier than scheduled.

Under the president's order, the checks started going into the mail this past Monday, four days sooner than previously scheduled.

The rebates amount to as much as $600 for individuals, $1,200 for married couples and an additional $300 for each dependent child.

All a taxpayer had to do to get a rebate was file a 2007 tax return, which should have been done by April 15.

Under the president's plan, all checks will go into the mail by July 11.

The (7.7 million) taxpayers who usually would get money back on their IRS filings by direct deposit should find the credited amounts in their bank accounts by next week, Maloney (D- Queens/Manhattan) said.

Those who don't have direct deposit, will get a paper check delivered by the mailman shortly after they're sent out on May 9, also a week ahead of schedule, said Maloney.

The lawmaker said that according to a Treasury Department spokesman, the department is using a new computer system that updates records faster, enabling Treasury to get out the checks more quickly. Over the next few weeks, 8.3 million Americans will receive tax rebates totalling more than $6.7 billion. This economic stimulus package will help give our economy a shot in the arm while providing much-needed tax relief to millions of New York families and seniors," Maloney declared.

Maloney said the rebate will be issued according to the last two digits of the main filer's Social Security number.

Direct Deposit payments should be sent to your bank by May 2 if the last two digits of your Social Security number end in 00 to 20; by May 9 if the last two digits are 21 to 75; and by May 16 if the digits are 76 through 99.

Paper checks should be in the mail by May 16 if your Social Security number ends in 00 through 09; by May 23 if it ends in 10 to 18; by May 30 if it ends in 19 to 25; by June 6 if ends in 26 to 38; by June 13 if it ends in 39 to 51; by June 20 if it ends in 52 to 63; by June 27 if it ends in 64 to 75; by July 4 if it ends in 76 to 87, and by July 11 if it ends in 88 to 99.
