Spring Electronic Recycling At SJU, May 3

The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) and Verizon Wireless join to recycle cellphones to aid survivors of domestic violence as well as help New Yorkers "Go Green" with unwanted computers and laptops, monitors, printers and scanners (desktop only), keyboards and mice, TVs, VCRs, DVRs, and DVD players. Other kinds of electronics will not be accepted at this event and only New York City residents may drop off up to five pieces per vehicle.

The recycling event on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine will be held at St. John's University (SJUs) Alumni Hall parking lot; corner of Utopia Parkway and Union Turnpike; cars enter at Gate 4 on Union Turnpike and 175th Street.

All collected phones will be donated to the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® program, which will refurbish, recycle or sell the phones and donate the proceeds to domestic violence advocacy groups in the form of cash grants and prepaid wireless phones for victims. Phones that cannot be refurbished are disposed of in an environmentally sound manner.
