D.A. Gives Livery Driver A Break The Queens livery cab driver who lied about rescuing a baby that was abandoned in his cab, won't face criminal charges for his actions, according Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Livery driver Klever Sailema, 45, brought the baby to a Queens firehouse on February 28, where he said the baby's father had left the baby in his cab. The story fell apart four days later, when a neighbor recognized the 6- month-old girl from a newspaper photo and called police. Sailema confessed to police that he was part of a plot cooked up by his girlfriend, the baby's aunt, and the father, who said he was unable to care for the child and wanted to leave her with firefighters for placement with the city. Sailema was charged with falsely reporting an incident and criminal facilitation; both are misdemeanors that carry a sentence of one year in jail. |
