Ognibene Will Run For 30th Council District Seat
Thomas V. Ognibene, former City Councilmember for the 30th Council District, on March 26 announced his candidacy for the same seat, to be vacated on April 18 by Councilmember Dennis Gallagher.
“While the circumstances that have led to the resignation of Councilman Gallagher are deeply saddening, it is important that we move forward as quickly as possible with this special election to ensure that the citizens of our community receive their full share of government services and are properly represented in city government,” Ognibene said.
Ognibene, the first person elected to represent the 30th Council District, served for 10 years, from 1991 to 2001. For seven of those years, he was council Minority Leader. He was instrumental in securing millions of dollars in services and capital improvements for police, schools and parks. Ognibene backers maintain that with three separate elections coming up for the vacated seat: the Special Election, the November 2008 General Election and another in 2009, it is clear that, given the constant distractions and time-consuming process of running for public office, that a person with hands-on experience is a tremendous asset in securing services to the community and protecting its integrity and quality of life.
“I know that my length of service in the City Council and to my community will enable me to take office and be ready to serve on day one,” Ognibene stated. “Notwithstanding, I will to work very hard to keep the trust and support of my fellow citizens as I campaign throughout the communities in our district.”
