Armando Lucero doesn't let his duties as evening manager of Sanford's Restaurant on Broadway interfere with his true love: soccer. He devotes many hours each week to teaching soccer to young children and has started a soccer club in Astoria. More than 40 youngsters ranging in age from six to 12 years, both boys and girls, of all ethnic backgrounds, belong to the Azteca Jr. Sports Club, which he started two months ago and for which Manolo Molina serves as head coach. P.S. 17 on 30th Avenue has graciously provided gym space during the winter months and has indicated space will be available in summer if need be.

On Saturday, March 8, Azteca Jr. Sports Club held a ceremony at P.S. 17 to present the children in the club with uniforms for the leagues they play in. Club sponsors include Chris and Gus Karalekas of Sanford's Restaurant, John Coco, Coco Realty, Nick Pappas of Citiview Pharmacy and Steve Valsamakis, Wonderful World of Fish.
