Traffic, Shoplifting Incidents Highlight St. Patrick's Day

Vehicle checkpoint operations on St. Patrick's Day, Monday, March 17, led to three arrests. Two Hispanic men 29 and 31 years old were arrested in two separate incidents at a checkpoint at Broadway and 31st Street: each was found to have a suspended license and each was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator. At a checkpoint at 36th Street and Ditmars Boulevard, a 50-year-old Indian male was found to be operating a vehicle with a revoked license and was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator and unlicensed operator.

In four other separate traffic incidents:

• A 19-year-old Hispanic male was observed using a cellphone while operating a vehicle and when stopped at 39th Avenue and Northern Boulevard, was found to have a suspended license; he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator, unlicensed operator and driving while using a cellphone.

• A 42-year-old black male in a vehicle accident at 31st Avenue and 12th Street was found to have a suspended license and was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator and unlicensed operator.

• A 34-year-old Hispanic male was observed operating a vehicle with a broken brake light. When he was stopped at Astoria Boulevard and 35th Street, he was found to have a suspended license and was charged with aggravated unlicensed operator and inadequate or no stop lamps.

• A 26-year-old Hispanic male was observed disobeying double yellow lines. When he was stopped at Broadway and 35th Street, he was found to be operating his vehicle without a license and was charged with unlicensed operator and driving left of pavement markings.

• Also on March 17, a 35-year-old Hispanic male was observed stealing merchandise from 28-56 Steinway St. and was charged with petit larceny.

Sunday, March 16:

• A 23-year-old Hispanic male was found in possession of marijuana in public at Ditmars Boulevard and 45th Street and was charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

• A 24-year-old Hispanic male caused damage to bathroom of a victim's establishment at 43-36 Ditmars Blvd. and was charged with criminal mischief.

• A 21-year-old Hispanic male several times refused to leave the scene of an investigation at 34th Avenue and 28th Street upon lawful request and was charged with obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

• A 20-year-old white male struck a victim in the face with a glass bottle at 32- 22 Steinway St. and was charged with assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct.

• At 425 Main St., Roosevelt Island, a 25-year-old black male exposed himself to a victim, jumped a turnstile while fleeing the scene and upon apprehension, produced forged identification. He was charged with possession of a forged instrument, bail jumping, theft of service and public lewdness.

• A 48-year-old white female was observed stealing merchandise from 22-08 31st St. and was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny.

Saturday, March 15:

• A 21-year-old Hispanic male was observed smoking marijuana in public at 30-06 46th St. and was charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

• At 37th Street and 35th Avenue, four Hispanic males, two 20 years old, one 21 years old and one 22 years old, punched several victims about the body and face. The 21-year-old also threw a metal garbage can at a victim's vehicle windshield. All four were charged with criminal mischief, assault and harassment.

• A 26-year-old Hispanic male was observed drinking beer in public at 28-61 Steinway St. and on further investigation, was found to be wanted on two active warrants. He was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

• A 29-year-old black female used a stolen credit card to make a purchase of a cellphone at 34-15 Steinway St. and was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.

• A 28-year-old black male was observed drinking alcohol in public at Crescent Street and 37th Avenue and on further investigation, was found to be wanted on an active warrant. He was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

• A 21-year-old white male was found in possession of marijuana and a smoking device at 32-65 31st St. and was charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

Friday, March 14:

• A 15-year-old Hispanic male was observed obstructing vehicular traffic and acting disorderly in public on 28th Street between 37th and 36th Avenues. Upon further investigation, he was found to be in possession of a switchblade and was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct.

• A 20-year-old Indian male was observed operating a vehicle with music emanating at an unreasonable volume. When he was stopped at Broadway and 30th Street, he was found to be wanted on two active warrants. He was charged with violation of a local law and an equipment violation.

• A 14-year-old white male was observed inside an enclosed area at 45-01 34th Ave. without permission and was charged with criminal trespass.

• At Crescent Street and Broadway a 24-year-old female pushed a victim and forcibly stole the victim's cellphone. She was charged with robbery and criminal possession of stolen property.

• A 36-year-old Hispanic male was observed at 33-17 36th Ave. drinking beer in public and could not produce valid identification. He was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

Thursday, March 13:

• A 26-year-old male was charged with assault and harassment after he struck a victim in the forehead with a large piece of metal at 21-01 36th Ave.

• At 33-02 36th Ave., a 30-year-old Hispanic male struck a victim with a glass bottle, causing an injury, and was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment.

• A 37-year-old Hispanic male slapped a victim in the face multiple times and also violated a valid order of protection. He was charged at the 114th Police Precinct station house, 34-16 Astoria Blvd., with criminal contempt.

• A 16-year-old black male was observed spitting and yelling obscenities in public at 31st Avenue and 48th Street and was charged with obstructing governmental administration, disorderly conduct and spitting.

• A 53-year-old Hispanic male was observed urinating in public at 31-85 Crescent St. and was unable to produce valid identification. He was charged with public urination.

• A 29-year-old Hispanic male was observed drinking beer in public and was unable to produce valid identification. He was charged with having an open container of an alcoholic beverage in public.

• A 21-year-old white male used a victim's vehicle without permission and at 8- 10 27th Ave. was charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Wednesday, March 12:

• At 34-42 29th St., a 44-year-old Asian male threatened to hurt a victim by telephone and was charged with aggravated harassment

• A 53-year-old Hispanic male was observed begging the drivers and passengers of passing vehicles for money at 27th Street and Queens Plaza North and was charged with disorderly conduct and panhandling.

Tuesday, March 11:

• At 30-74 33rd St. a 55-year-old white male changed the locks to a victim's apartment, refusing to give access to the victim's apartment and shut off electricity to the victim's apartment. He was charged with violation of a local law.

• A 21-year-old Hispanic male was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after he went into a victim's purse at 22-50 31st St., removed a debit card and used it to buy a cellphone without permission.

• A 13-year-old black male was charged with assault and harassment after he punched a victim in the mouth at 21st Street and 36th Avenue.

• A 51-year-old black male was observed inside a victim's garage at 36th Avenue and 11th Street without permission and was found in possession of a Leatherman tool. He was charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and possession of burglar's tools.

• At 74-16 21st Ave. a 32-year-old white male punched a victim in the face and a 23-year-old white female scratched a victim in the face. Both were charged with assault.

Monday, March 10:

• A 27-year-old Hispanic male was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and an equipment violation after he was observed operating a vehicle with illegal window tinting and when he was stopped at 31st Avenue and 49th Street, was found in possession of an illegal metal baton.
