American Airlines Offers Alliances, AA.Com Service

Travelers today want to go just about anywhere in the world as quickly and directly as possible. While American Airlines is the world's largest air carrier, no single airline flies to every destination desired by today's business or leisure passenger.

However, international travelers are now benefiting from a strong trend in air travel: airlines are building partnerships that significantly extend their reach beyond the locations they fly to on their own.

American Airlines and its position as a founding member of the oneworld Alliance is a case in point. American and its American Eagle subsidiary fly to 250 destinations around the globe. But add in the cities where American can fly its customers through oneworld partners, and that number rises to nearly 700 cities where business and leisure travelers want to go!

Customers booking on American for global travel can find themselves on the aircraft of such diverse carriers as British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Royal Jordanian, Qantas or Cathay Pacific. This is a particular benefit to the members of American's AAdvantage® program, the industry's first and largest frequent flyer program.

American has frequent flyer agreements with all 10 oneworld partner airlines, and passengers can earn AAdvantage miles when they travel on qualifying flights with any oneworld member. The base miles customers earn with oneworld airlines count toward their qualification for AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum® and AAdvantage Gold® status.

Once customers reach elite status in any

oneworld airlines' frequent flyer program, they are entitled to special benefits when traveling on any oneworld flight to the more than 700 destinations noted above. Although codesharing is not a oneworld requirement, American codeshares on select flights of all oneworld partners, and all oneworld airlines are AAdvantage participants.

One of the most important customer benefits of AA codeshare flights is the ability of AAdvantage customers to earn miles on these flights just as if they were true AA flights, regardless of whether the operating airline is an AAdvantage participant. American also offers AA codeshare "flights" that are operated by SNCF French Rail to/from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, and Deutsche Bahn German Rail to/from Frankfurt Airport. The miles earned on these AA codeshare "flight" numbers also count toward a member's AAdvantage elite status.

Global travel, with its overnight flights and dizzying plunge through multiple time zones, will remain a challenge for international travelers. But the powerful partnerships that stretch many airlines' reach to virtually anywhere in the world are providing a welcome measure of convenience and relief.

American Airlines has also extended the services and conveniences offered its passengers through the addition of several new features for New Yorkers and other passengers to the mobile version of AA.com, providing customers access to even more AA.com services via Web-enabled cellphones or other Web-enabled devices.

In January, American Airlines unveiled a mobile version of AA.com that allows customers to conveniently log on to AA.com wherever their cellphones or PDAs work without the need for desktop or laptop computers.

The current round of enhancements to the mobile AA.com Web site enable travelers to book flights, view fare specials, request upgrades, enroll in the AAdvantage® program- even purchase Admirals Club® one-day passes- all from Webenabled cellphones or other Web-enabled devices. Additionally, customers can now change their flights for many domestic reservations via the mobile site. Throughout the year, additional enhancements will be added to the mobile site, making it even easier for customers to utilize the features of AA.com while on the go.

"We are very pleased to offer our customers these additional features through the mobile AA.com site, which will provide them with greater access to American Airlines' service - not only while planning and booking travel, but also while traveling," American Senior Vice President- Customer Relationship Marketing and Reservations Bella Goren said.
