Hubby Questioned In Homicide

The city Medical Examiner (ME) last week identified bones found in a suitcase in Forest Park as those of a mother of two who disappeared from her Woodhaven home in June 2007.

A spokesperson for the ME's office said dental records were used to identify Reyna De Los Santos-Reyes, 43, and while the cause of death was not immediately known, the death has been ruled a homicide.

Police last week questioned Reyes' husband, Edwin Fuentes, about his wife's disappearance and obtained a warrant to search the Woodhaven home for forensic evidence and possible other remains.

Fuentes found himself in hot water on March 14, when he was jailed on charges that he beat his 17-year-old autistic stepson with a broomstick, police sources said.

Police were hoping to keep Fuentes behind bars until they receive the results of DNA testing they believe could tie him to his wife's murder.
