Judge By Character
To The Editor:

I am dismayed at the fact that recently race and gender have been used in an inflammatory and derogatory way concerning our presidential campaign and ensuing primaries. Dr. [Martin Luther] King told us that we should not judge a person by the color of [their] skin but by the content of [their] character and I say also by the abilities, talents and we should treat all people with respect and dignity, fairly and this is the true meaning of democracy, equality of opportunity and freedom and liberty and justice for all.

Also, we must no longer dwell on the past concerning the resignation of our governor [Eliot] Spitzer but move forward and with hope, unity, teamwork, our state will regain its dignity. I wish our governor-to-be [David] Patterson a smooth transition, and lots of success as he embarks upon his new journey as the 55th governor of our Empire State. He is a role model for all, intelligent, experienced as a legislator, caring for all people and above all has overcome the disability of visual impairment with grace and dignity. He has shown that disability is not inability to lead a productive life of public service. Happy spring, Easter and Purim to all.
