Hails Livery Car Driver
To The Editor:

I felt deeply troubled in reading about this poor child named Daniella Cosme Perez who was drop[ped] off at Engine Company 289 in Corona. I also felt concern for the livery cab driver, Klever Sailema[,] who said he was left the baby by the father[,] who couldn't care for the child after the mother left him. The story was untrue[,] but Sailema had tr[ied] to do the right thing by the child in giving baby Daniella to the [F]ire [D]epartment, which is reported to be a safe haven. The problem[,] I believe[,] is that Sailema and his girlfriend had not thought clearly about their actions[,] which in the end ended in their arrest. But remember this[:] the child was [in danger] of being totally abandoned and Sailema had stepped up to the plate to protect this child. Furthermore[,] I don't think the DA took in[to] consideration the reasons for Mr. Sailema['s] actions.

In my book[,] this man did what he thought was right[,] and that[,] I feel[,] makes him a true hero. I also think the DA ought to drop the charges[,] for the child was brought to safety, even if Mr. Sailema's methods were illegal. Frederick R. Bedell Jr. Bellerose
