Celebrate Responsibly

Western Queens Gazette
42-16 34th Avenue
Astoria, NY 11101
To The Editor:

Whether Irish, or merely Irish at heart, celebrating St. Patrick's Day is a time to sport the green, enjoy traditional foods and celebrate Ireland's rich heritage.

If your plans include alcohol, remember to celebrate responsibly and don't forget to include the most important part of any celebration-the designated driver. According to a national survey, 154 million American adults have either been a designated driver or been driven home by one- that's about half the U.S. population!

Thanks to designated drivers and increased law enforcement, drunk-driving fatalities are down 36 percent nationwide, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

So before you don the green and head out to celebrate this St. Patrick's Day, don't rely on the luck of the Irish. Keep your family and friends safe by volunteering to be the designated driver.
Sincerely,
