Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church

Dead Fetus Left At Corona Church

A fetus in a state of decomposition left at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, 104-11 37th Ave., Corona, was brought to the church earlier on Wednesday, March 12 by a couple who said they had discovered it in a closet in their home, according to police.

The couple, who police did not identify, asked parish clergy to provide a proper burial for the fetus. They and the priest with whom they consulted, prayed over the fetus and the couple then left. Monsignor Thomas Healy and members of the parish at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, 104-11 37th Ave., Corona (shown) then called police of the 115th Precinct at about 11 p.m. to report that a bag containing a dead human fetus had been dropped off at the church.

The fetus was turned over to the Office of the Medical Examiner so that its age and sex, as well as the cause of death can be determined. Police are checking to see of the fetus was hidden by the couple’s 18-year-old daughter, who is said to have recently run away.
