Cab Driver, 2 Others, Charged In Abandoned Baby Case Cab driver Klever Sailema, his roommate and his girlfriend have all been
charged in connection with the case of the baby allegedly abandoned in
Sailema’s livery car Thursday, according to media reports. Sailema is
charged with filing a false report and endangering the welfare of a child.
Maria Siavichay, Sailema's girlfriend, has been charged with child
endangerment and Marcelo Vinansaca, Siavichay's roommate, with obstruction
of justice. Police say Sailema and Siavichay both took part in leaving the child in the cab.
Sailema originally told police he was called on the street by a man with
the baby near 106th Street and Northern Boulevard in Corona. He said the
man asked to be let out to use a pay phone at 83rd Street and Northern
Boulevard, walked toward a pay phone, then sprinted away and got into
another livery car. Sailema brought the child to Engine 289 on 43rd Avenue
in Corona. EMS workers took her to St. John's Hospital in Elmhurst, where
the staff named her Lourdes.
