Time Warner Cable Presents SNY Invitational

The Benjamin N. Cardozo H.S. Judges took second place in the first annual SportsNet New York (SNY) Invitational, losing to the Abraham Lincoln H.S. Railsplitters by a score of 86 to 55.
SportsNet New York (SNY), the television home of the Mets and Jets, and New York's leader in local sports news coverage, late last month established the SNY Invitational, presented by Time Warner Cable. This annual high school basketball tournament is a pillar of SNY's involvement in the community and New York's newest great high school basketball event.

The SNY Invitational presented by Time Warner Cable, sanctioned by the Public School Athletic League (PSAL), took place on February 1 and 2 at New York University's Coles Sports Center in Manhattan and featured four elite boys' varsity basketball teams with deep roots in the New York City basketball landscape: the Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters, Benjamin N. Cardozo Judges, John F. Kennedy Knights and the Frederick Douglass Lions. One of the represented schools - Abraham Lincoln H.S.- boasts NYC basketball phenom Lance Stephenson, dubbed "the king of high school basketball in New York City". SNY and Time Warner Cable of New York and New Jersey made a donation of $1,000 to each participating school, as well as $15,000 to the PSAL. Bayside's own Benjamin N. Cardozo came in second in the tournament, losing to Abraham Lincoln by a score of 86 to 55.

"The SNY Invitational not only represents a major step in extending the network's reach into the high school arena, but it also supports our commitment to New York," Steve Raab, SNY president, said. "We're confident this tournament will become New York's premier basketball event, and we're proud to showcase the participating high schools and their athletes."

"Time Warner Cable is proud to present the first annual SNY Invitational as part of our continuing commitment to offer students opportunities to further develop their skills and unique abilities," Time Warner Cable of New York & New Jersey Vice President of Public Affairs Harriet Novet said. "We're hopeful that this tournament will become an exciting and much-anticipated annual athletic event for New York City high school athletes and basketball fans of all ages."
