Valentine's Day Fun Facts & Things To Do

Did You Know- Approximately 25 percent of all greeting cards purchased each year are Valentine's cards according to the Greeting Card Association, and all the Valentines exchanged each year add up to approximately 1 billion love notes. People in the Middle Ages believed that the first unmarried person of the opposite sex they met on Valentine's Day would join them in wedded bliss.

Loft Brothers Confectioners marketed the first box of Valentine's candy in New York City in the late 1800s.

Lovers, spouses and other people buy more than 50 million roses for their significant others each Valentine's Day.

On February 13- kids can make Valentine's cards for family and friends at the Broadway Library, 3:30 p.m., 40-20 Broadway, Long Island City. For information call 718-721-2462.

Children in grades 1 to 8 can create unique and beautiful 3-D origami Valentine's Day cards at the Ridgewood Library, 20-12 Madison St., beginning at 4 p.m. For more information, call 718-821-4770.

Children ages five to 12 are invited to create Valentine crafts at the Whitestone Library. Materials are supplied for the craft fun, which begins at 3 p.m.,151-10 14th Rd. For information, call 718-767-8010.

On February 14, children ages five to 12 can create Valentine's crafts at 4 p.m. at the Windsor Park Library, 79-50 Bell Blvd., Bayside. Preregistration is required. For information, call 718-468-8300.
