Borough-Wide Blotter Scents-less Theft Cops arrested a 20-year-old Queens man on January 26 after he was spotted swiping perfume at a Fresh Meadows department store. Police said David Hernandez took his time sniffing scents at Filene's Basement on 187th Street and the Horace Harding Expressway, before a store security guard saw him stuff a dozen bottles of perfume into a foil-lined bag at about 8:30 p.m. Law enforcement sources said thieves often stash their stolen goods into foil-lined bags to prevent store exit security alarms from scanning the goods. Hernandez was charged with multiple counts of petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police said. 108th Precinct Hunt LIC Shooter Queens detectives are seeking help from the public to identify and locate a gunman who opened fire on a Long Island City man on January 27, killing the father of two as he left a party at a local restaurant. Police said Joseph Prince, 30, was found face down with a gunshot wound to the head at about 5 a.m. in front of the La Familia Bar and Restaurant at 44-63 23rd St. Police sources said Prince was one of 20-to- 30 restaurant patrons who spilled onto the street after a fight broke out inside the eatery. As patrons battled and tossed bottles at each other, gunshots rang out and Prince fell to the pavement. Three shell casings from a .45-caliber handgun were recovered near Prince's body. According to law enforcement sources, Prince had a lengthy criminal record that included a 1998 attempted murder arrest along with drug and larceny arrests. Police said the thieves gut lampposts in the park for their copper wire, which is currently being purchased by scrap metal yards for $2.25 a pound. The scavengers are stealing all types of metal from lampposts on city streets and in parks, which they haul off to the scrap yards. The situation is so out of hand that the state legislature passed a bill, effective January 14, which requires people selling more than $50 in scrap metal to provide a valid ID at the scrap yards. The scrap metal thieves have caused more than $8,000 in damage at Kissena Park, police said. Anyone with information on the thieves is urged to call the Crimestoppers Hotline at 1-800- 577-TIPS. 111th Precinct Four Arrested In Playground Slaying Detectives at the 111th Precinct last week arrested a 16-year-old girl and two adult males in the beating death of a man whose body was found on a handball court inside a Little Neck playground on Christmas Day. Police said Rosana Juarez, 16, of Great Neck, Long Island, lured Domingo Hernandez to the park at Little Neck Parkway and 42nd Avenue on Christmas Day, where he was fatally beaten by Balmore Rodriguez, 21, of Great Neck, Santos Rodriguez, 19, of Jamaica and a third unidentified man.
