Essay Contests For Aspiring Writers And Others Assemblymember For A Day: Assemblymember Mark S. Weprin (D- Little Neck) is sponsoring an essay contest for students in grades five through eight. The winner will travel to Albany, accompanied by a parent or guardian, sit in the Assembly chamber, meet with colleagues, tape an interview, and review constituent concerns. Students who want to participate should write an essay of no more than 500 words about a fictional character from a book they have read who they feel would make a good president of the United States and the essay should explain why the character would be a good choice. Promoting Harmony In The Community: 112th Police Precinct is also holding an essay contest for students in their community. The subject should encompass living together with respect for each other and how, in 1657, 31 prominent residents of Flushing refused to obey Governor Peter Stuyvesant's command to discriminate against the Quakers. The title of the essay is, "We are bound by the law to do good unto all," and should discuss our future and your impact on the future, should be approximately 500 words and submitted to the 112th precinct, 68-40 Austin St., Forest Hills no later than April 4.
